This trainer`s pack provides a framework for the development of these skills for this group of workers.
Research mindedness in social work and social care – mental health case study
The case study Working with Mental Illness deals with a family situation where more than one person experiences mental health problems. It focuses on the practice issues raised by working with family members who are both clients and carers. It highlights tensions between intervening and developing an empowering practice, enabling clients to manage their own difficulties.
RETHINK works to improve the lives of everyone affected by severe mental illness, whether they have a condition themselves, care for others who do, or are professionals or volunteers working in the mental health field. Services provided include employment projects, supported housing, day care, helplines, residential care, and respite centres.
A website for all mental health carers which has been designed with carers’ involvement and builds on the work of Rethink severe mental illness groups and services around the country. This site aims to, firstly, provide reliable, road-tested information using the experiences of the carers that Rethink works with. Secondly, it provides a virtual community where carers can share experiences and keep in touch with the latest developments that may affect their lives.
Royal College of Nursing Research & Development Co-ordinating Centre
This site has been developed to provide an easy-to-access means of sharing information on research and practice development in nursing, and is designed to be fully interactive. The site is permanently 'under construction' so that it develops in line with the needs of professional nurses endeavouring to conduct relevant research, and keep abreast of current activities in research and practice development in order to provide the very best patient care. The site provides a shell or framework for sharing information about research networks, policy issues, ethics, funding, training and support units, dissemination and practice development.

This report reviews the nature, prevalence and causes of mental health problems in higher education students; reviews existing services; and presents recommendations for the development of strategic policy and best practice in relation to mental health promotion and the identification and treatment of mental ill health in this growing population.
