About subject areas

This section of the website provides an overview of learning and teaching about mental health within a range of disciplines and subject areas.

It can be difficult to gain access to clear information about how mental health is taught in areas other than our own - even if we are close neighbours in practice or academic settings.  We hope these pages will help to break us to connect with one another.  You may be asking:

How is mental health taught in other subject areas and disciplines? At what stage do students specialise? What opportunities exist for postqualifying study? What are the key issues in learning and teaching about mental health? What research into learning and teaching is being done and where is this likely to be found?

This scoping accounts in this section aim to answer the above questions.

Completed scoping accounts include:

Each of these accounts draws on the knowledge and perspective of one or more individuals. They are not intended to be definitive documents, but to be added to and expanded through input from others teaching in this field. Please help us to keep them up to date and relevant!

We are actively seeking contributions from people in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, where the situation in these countries is not currently reflected. We will also be adding to these accounts to ensure that other subject areas (teacher education, pharmacy, dentistry etc.) are represented.

Please let us know if you would be willing to write an account of mental health teaching in your area, and help us to make the existing information as accurate as possible by contributing your ideas and responses via the contact us form.
